Afghanistan protests air violations and summons Pakistani Charge d’Affaires

Friday, June 12, 2026- Afghanistan has formally protested repeated airspace violations and summoned Pakistan’s key diplomatic representative in Kabul, signaling a serious escalation in bilateral tensions.

Kabul’s foreign ministry issued a sharp diplomatic protest after reporting multiple incursions by Pakistani military aircraft across the international border. Afghan officials described the violations as threats to national sovereignty and demanded immediate explanations and corrective actions.

The move to summon the Pakistani Charge d’Affaires underscores how deeply Afghanistan is taking the issue. Rather than issuing routine statements, Afghan authorities brought the matter directly to Pakistan’s diplomatic mission, a step that reflects growing frustration with what Kabul characterizes as persistent disregard for its territorial integrity.

Afghan security sources warn that continued violations could inflame local sentiments and destabilize border districts already strained by economic hardship and militant activity.

Regional observers say this development could strain cooperation on security and trade if not resolved quickly. Afghanistan is pushing for firm diplomatic assurances and steps to prevent future airspace incursions, while Islamabad has so far offered limited public comments.

With both countries facing internal pressures from insurgent threats in Afghanistan to political volatility in Pakistan this diplomatic friction adds urgency to broader talks on border management and mutual respect for sovereign airspace.
