Sunday, October 4, 2026 - Yemen’s internationally recognised government forces say nearly 500 military operations over the past 24 hours killed or wounded 1,540 Houthi fighters.
Military spokesman Colonel Majed Abdullah al-Nazili said the operations involved warplanes, drones, artillery, missiles and rocket launchers and targeted Houthi positions across several parts of Yemen, with the heaviest fighting reported around Taiz.
The military said the operations targeted Houthi reinforcements, command centres, troop concentrations, weapons and military equipment.
It claimed 216 military vehicles and other assets were destroyed or damaged, while government forces said the attacks had halted Houthi efforts to make a breakthrough around Taiz. The casualty figures are claims from the Yemeni military and have not been independently verified.
The escalation comes as fighting intensifies across Yemen, with Taiz emerging as a major battlefield and authorities closing the strategically important al-Houban crossing for security reasons.
Government forces have also reported fresh strikes around Sanaa and other Houthi-held areas, signalling that the latest offensive is expanding beyond the main front lines. The renewed fighting is already raising concerns over displacement, civilian safety and the wider security of the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb region.
