Thursday, August 20, 2026 - TV judge and barrister Rob Rinder is mourning the death of his father, David Rinder, who died this week aged 73 after living with Lewy body dementia.
Rinder shared the news in an emotional tribute, describing his father as a London cabbie and lifelong Tottenham Hotspur supporter who remained a proud and important figure in his life despite their differences.
Rinder reflected honestly on their relationship, revealing that his parents divorced when he was young and that his father did not live at home while he was growing up.
He recalled their contrasting interests but said he never doubted his father's pride in him. Rinder also praised Jewish Care for supporting David during his final years, saying he died surrounded by family and was cared for with dignity and tenderness.
The loss has also prompted Rinder to renew his call for greater awareness of Lewy body dementia, which he describes as poorly understood, frequently missed and desperately under-researched.
Rinder, who became a patron of the Lewy Body Society after his father's diagnosis, is using his personal loss to highlight the urgent need for better understanding and support for families affected by the condition. His tribute ultimately captured David not simply through his illness, but as a father remembered as “funny, beautifully flawed, loving”.
