Thursday July 30, 2026- Istanbul's Sabiha Gokcen Airport has emerged as Europe's fastest-growing major airport, marking another significant milestone for Türkiye's aviation sector.
According to the latest Airports Council International (ACI Europe) report, the airport recorded a 6.4% increase in passenger traffic during the first half of 2026, outperforming all European airports handling more than 40 million passengers annually. The growth places Sabiha Gokcen ahead of major aviation hubs including Barcelona, Madrid, Istanbul Airport, and Rome Fiumicino.
The strong performance reflects rising demand for air travel, expanded airline operations, and the airport's growing role as a key gateway connecting Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
While overall passenger traffic across European airports grew by just 2.6% during the same period, Sabiha Gokcen more than doubled that pace, reinforcing its competitive position in one of the world's busiest aviation markets.
This achievement strengthens Istanbul's reputation as a global aviation powerhouse and creates new opportunities for tourism, trade, and investment.
