Monday, August 10, 2026 - The Edinburgh Comedy Awards have appointed Emma Brünjes as their new Executive Director, marking a significant leadership change as the organisation prepares for its 50th anniversary in 2030.
Brünjes, who has served as the Awards’ producer for 16 years, will now take on the senior leadership role as longtime director Nica Burns begins putting a long-term succession plan in place.
Brünjes brings extensive experience across comedy, theatre and live entertainment, having produced and managed more than 100 productions in the UK and internationally.
Her appointment comes at a crucial moment for the Awards, which continue to play a major role in identifying emerging comedy talent at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Burns will remain involved in supporting Brünjes and the wider Awards team, ensuring continuity while the organisation moves toward its next phase.
The leadership change puts the spotlight firmly on the future of the Edinburgh Comedy Awards and their role in developing the next generation of performers.
Brünjes said her priority will be to protect the Awards’ legacy while continuing to discover and spotlight exceptional new talent. With the 50th anniversary now four years away, the new appointment signals an early push to strengthen the organisation for the years ahead.
