Fire near Paris forces evacuations, disrupts trains and highway

Monday, July 13, 2026- A major wildfire burning through the historic Fontainebleau Forest south of Paris has forced the evacuation of nearby neighborhoods while disrupting train services and traffic on the A6 highway.

Hundreds of firefighters, supported by water-dropping aircraft, are battling the fast-moving blaze as strong winds and extreme heat continue to fuel its spread.

The fire has caused significant travel disruptions, with rail services between Paris and southern France affected and major road closures leaving motorists stranded.

Emergency crews have urged residents and visitors to avoid the area as authorities work to contain what officials have described as a wildfire of exceptional scale. Investigators are also examining the possibility that the fire was deliberately started after reports of multiple ignition points.

The wildfire is the latest in a series of devastating blazes sweeping across Western Europe during an intense heatwave. Officials warn that dangerous fire conditions remain in place, with high temperatures and dry weather expected to keep the risk elevated in the coming days as emergency services remain on high alert.
