UK heatwave end forecast as Met Office predicts 15C temperature drop

Thursday, June 25, 2026-The United Kingdom's record-breaking heatwave is expected to ease in the coming days, with the Met Office forecasting a significant drop in temperatures across much of the country.

After temperatures surged above 36°C in several areas and set new June records, cooler Atlantic air and the possibility of thunderstorms are expected to bring relief. Some regions could experience temperature declines of up to 15°C compared to peak heatwave levels, marking a dramatic shift from the extreme conditions seen this week.

The heatwave has disrupted transport networks, forced school closures, and triggered health warnings as authorities responded to the risks posed by extreme heat and high humidity. The Met Office has indicated that while southeastern parts of England may remain hot through Saturday, many areas will begin seeing more comfortable temperatures as showers and thunderstorms move in.

Weather experts say the transition could be rapid in some locations, bringing a noticeable contrast between the scorching conditions of recent days and the cooler weather expected over the weekend.

For businesses and households, the cooler weather may provide much-needed relief from soaring energy demand and heat-related disruptions. However, forecasters caution that summer is far from over, with above-average temperatures still expected during the coming weeks and the possibility of further warm spells later in the season.

As weather patterns become increasingly unpredictable, organizations are being encouraged to strengthen resilience plans to manage both extreme heat and sudden weather changes.
