JOHNNY SOMALI loses appeal in South Korea court as judges uphold six month sentence with labor

Thursday, June 25, 2026-Controversial American streamer Johnny Somali has lost his appeal in South Korea after an appellate court upheld his six-month prison sentence with labor.

The ruling means his original sentence remains in place, despite efforts by both the defense to reduce the punishment and prosecutors to seek a longer prison term. The case stems from multiple offenses, including disrupting businesses and distributing illegal deepfake content, for which he was previously found guilty.

The decision marks another major setback for the internet personality, whose actions sparked widespread outrage during his time in South Korea. Judges ruled that the original sentence was appropriate, leaving him to serve the prison term imposed by the lower court.

The case has attracted international attention and intensified discussions about accountability for online creators whose content crosses legal and ethical boundaries.

With the appeal rejected, attention now turns to whether either side will pursue further legal action in South Korea's highest court. Regardless of the next steps, the ruling sends a clear message that authorities are prepared to enforce the law against disruptive online behavior, even when it involves high-profile social media personalities.
