Tuesday, June 9, 2026- Professional wrestling legend Hulk Hogan born Terry Bollea died of natural causes, according to a detailed report by the Clearwater Police Department in Florida that formally closes the nearly year-long investigation into his death. Hogan, a cultural icon of WWE and mainstream pop culture, passed away on July 24, 2025 at age 71.
After reviewing medical records, witness statements, surveillance footage and a physical examination, authorities found “no evidence … other than natural causes and concluded there was no criminal wrongdoing related to his death. The report therefore marks the case as “closed” and non-criminal.
Police and medical experts involved in the probe determined Hogan died from natural causes linked to a heart attack. He had been receiving home health care and was surrounded by his wife, a home health aide and an occupational therapist when he suffered cardiac arrest at his Clearwater residence.
Despite earlier public speculation and questions raised by family members about possible surgical complications, both the official autopsy and a private family-commissioned autopsy corroborated the conclusion that Hogan’s death stemmed from longstanding health issues including leukemia, irregular heart rhythm, pneumonia and kidney problems rather than foul play.
Hogan’s death drew widespread attention due to his status as one of wrestling’s most recognizable figures of the 1980s and 1990s, the face of WWE’s “Hulkamania” era and a Hall of Fame inductee. The closure of the investigation puts to rest official uncertainty about the circumstances of his passing, allowing fans and the wider community to remember his impact on sports entertainment.
