CARNEY says opening of Canada-US bridge may take 'a little longer'

Thursday, June 11, 2026- Mark Carney has indicated that the opening timeline for a major Canada–US border bridge project may face delays, warning that final completion could take “a little longer” than previously expected.

The remarks come amid ongoing coordination between Canadian and U.S. authorities over infrastructure readiness, customs integration, and final safety approvals.

The bridge, a key cross-border trade route between Canada and the United States, is intended to ease congestion and strengthen supply chain efficiency between the two countries.

However, Carney noted that complex regulatory checks, construction adjustments, and operational coordination are contributing to slower progress than planned.

The delay highlights broader pressures facing large-scale North American infrastructure projects, where political coordination and technical standards must align across jurisdictions.

Despite the setback, officials maintain that the project remains a priority, with expectations that it will significantly boost trade flow and economic connectivity once completed.
